In Search of a PhD Student and a Postdoctoral Researcher to Help Us Predict the Spread of AI in Society

We were very glad to find that our research proposal: “Predicting the diffusion of AI-applications” was one of 16 projects awarded funding by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation. The project starts in 2020. We are now looking for a PhD student within psychology, and a social sciences postdoc to join us here at the Institute for Futures Studies, in Stockholm.

The overall aim of the project is to develop a methodological framework for predicting the diffusion of consumer AI in different demographics within the coming decade. This will help us better understand the mechanisms that are determinant for diffusion, and to predict the spread of a set of selected AI technologies.

AI-applications that are likely to spread particularly slowly/fast will thus be identified and the social and ethical impacts will then be evaluated for chosen AI-applications. The goal of the project is not to make predictions with great precision, but rather to use a scientific approach to articulate the key underlying mechanisms of AI diffusion, and to draw attention to important areas for intervention.

Find information more about the PhD student position here at Stockohlm University’s site (select “PhD student in Psychology”).

Please read the project description below – and spread the word to anyone who might be interested to join us!
